The thirty-minute rule
Every major recommendation algorithm — Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, X — uses the first 30 minutes after publish as a quality signal. High early engagement unlocks broad distribution; low early engagement suppresses the post for the rest of its life.
The easiest way to win those 30 minutes is to post when your audience is actually on the platform. Not when it's convenient for you.
Platform patterns
- Instagram peaks at 8–10am and 7–9pm on weekdays; Sunday evening is strong.
- TikTok peaks at 6–10am and 7–11pm, every day. Weekend mornings are the strongest window.
- YouTube Shorts peaks at 12–4pm on weekdays (lunch) and 8–11pm (prime).
- X peaks at 9am–12pm weekdays. Engagement falls off a cliff after 4pm.
- LinkedIn peaks at 7–9am Tuesday through Thursday. Weekends are dead.
These are medians. Your account may peak differently — the only way to know is to post in three different windows over two weeks and measure.
